Wearing a Mask: Today’s New Normal

In the midst of COVID-19, wearing a mask is becoming part of our new normal. According to the CDC, wearing a mask can help to slow the spread of the virus. It is important to remember that the virus is spread from person to person. Wearing a mask AND social distancing can help to keep you and others safe.

 

Cloth masks and face coverings are great if you are unable to find traditional masks. The purpose of the mask is to prevent the spread of respiratory droplets from coughs and sneezes. The CDC recommends using a mask when maintaining social distancing is difficult. For example, masks should be worn in grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies and wherever else it is requested.

 

Masks should only be worn by children and adults that are over the age of 2 and do not have trouble breathing or they are physically incapable of removing the mask. You do not need to wear a mask in your personal vehicle unless you are a rideshare driver. 

 

Cloth masks and face coverings can be made from materials that you have at home. There are many tutorials on the web giving you step by step instructions on how to make them. You can use t-shirts, bandanas, and even old pillow cases. There are many styles and cuts so you can personalize your mask to your liking and fit.

 

 

Make sure your hands are clean before putting on your mask. Place the mask over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin. It is important to have it fit snugly to the sides of your face and to be sure that your breathing is not restricted. 

 

Wearing a mask is an important and easy way to keep yourself and your community safe.
